National Priority Lichens

The List of National Priority Species and Habitats is a list of all endangered species in Switzerland from 21 different groups of organisms, which assigns a priority level to the species using several criteria. High-priority species should be given special consideration by the cantons in their efforts to preserve biodiversity. Classification into priority levels is based on the degree of threat to the species as assessed in the current Red List, on the one hand, and on an assessment of the responsibility Switzerland assumes with regard to the populations of this species in the European area, on the other.

For Switzerland's 2019 list of National Priority Species, a total of 786 lichen species were evaluated, of which 297 were classified as priority.
